Slight tapping sound when engine winds down

When I let off the gas and the engine drops down to idle it makes a noise like a tapping sound. I think its a lifter because I had a 2001 dodge ram laramie with a 318 V8 and it started knocking bad(I let a guy borrow it and he ran from the cops through 4 texas counties back in feb. 2005.)

This is a strange symptom to have. Sounds like it could be a lifter issue, are you able to post up a video that captures the noise?

I know this sounds stupid but I had the same problem with my 88 teg when I first got it. Mine was more of a tapping buzz that ended being from the custom exhaust the previous owner put on himself(poorly) where the exaust met the header, it was lose.. Might be something to check for. Most likely NOT the problem but its worth a look, cause lifter(i think there actually pushers, could be wrong) wont start having problems unless something happens.
You didnt do a carbon cleaning or anything did you?

How about maybe a heat shield rattling around on the exhaust? Check to make sure those are tight.

Mine does a similar thing but it is a transmission issue, could be that as well. This will only be a factor if yours is auto though, I haven't heard of the same issue happening to manuals.

When I disconnect the power steering pump off the drive belt the sound stops,. im gonna replace pump and belt, and see what happens
