So I was driving with my friend today who hasn't been in my car yet and he asked me to go through the gears for the hell of it. I said fuck it, let's go. I go 1, 2, 3 and of course I miss 4th. I throw it in 2nd.

Before I continue, give me all the shit you guys want, I deserve it.

So I quickly disengage the gear and throw it in 5th and start to slow down. I pull up to a stop sign with my window down and notice my engine is ticking. Loudly. My engine normally ticks... Noisy lifters I guess, but not like this. It's loud and constant with the rev of my rpms. I'm pretty sure there is a rod bouncing around in there or something.

Terrible.

Its most likely a bent valve, either kissing the piston, or bent enough to not seal evenly with the port and make that noise. A rod knock would be very different from a valve tick. I think worst case scenario for you would be that you dropped a valve and its bouncing around in the cylinder. You certainly should check it out soon.

I would do a leakdown test to see which cylinder has the issue/biggest issue. If a valve actually dropped, you will have a ton of air either coming out of the intake, or the exhaust.

Right when this happened I was actually a little bit happy. I want to drop a b20... I get excited thinking about it!

Having a damaged motor is no reason to be happy. You can forget about getting a reasonable price from selling it as-is. Sure an upgrade is cool, but you could just as easily just purchase a b20 block, and keep you ls head. That isn't the case anymore, considering the damage is most likely in the cylinder head.

Let us know what your leakdown results are when you get it done, if you do.

l0l, dang i learn alot of forums and all, you guys sure are smart, and that sucks dude, same thing i was racing a friend slammed it into second tryn to hit 4 and i got scared shitless and threw it in nutreual and thats when i called it stops on racing!! haha

this is one of the first cars I haven't really beaten on. Never done anything like this to my car before... =\ Goin on vacation for 5 days so when I get back I guess I'll figure things out. And it sure is a reason to be happy because now I can push myself to save for the swap I wanted.

go with a b18b or throw a b16 head on your block otherwise just swap the head wit another ls one

I was actually thinking about going with a new head. VTEC? Would it be worth it to just pop on a new vtec head before boosting, or should I use a b16 head?
