Should i swap the motor if my transmission goes out

Hey I'm new to this forum and I've been searching for an answer to my question but my stupid self can't find the answer. Third gear in my tranny is completely shot as it will grind and not even go into third(I bought the car like this). I was thinking of swapping out the motor if I'm going to have the tranny replaced because my friend is selling a rebuilt gsr motor with a b16 tranny and will provide everything else needed and drop it in for about 2500. At the same time, I'm thinking about saving money and just changing the tranny and keeping the original engine. My odometer says 234,xxx miles but I looked at the engine and I have a b18b. I have a 90 integra 4door LS and I thought these came with a b18a stock or am I wrong? If it is swapped then this motor may not have that much miles on it but I'm still unsure. But anyways back to my original question, should I get a new motor if ima change the tranny or should I just keep it?

Your original motor was a B18A1, So yes it was swapped for a 94-01 B18B... It's safe to assume that the mileage is lower than the odometer reads.

You don't have to change the engine if the transmission goes out, The transmission and engine are 2 different units and a grind is just a gear. If you wanted you could have the old transmission rebuilt for possibly even less than a new transmission.

Wouldnt it be better to find another transmission (not new) elsewhere? I've been looking around and found a lot of people recommending to install a b16 tranny to get the most out of the engine. Or maybe i should just rebuild what i got?

if you EVER drive your car on the highway, stay away from the b16 trans. Just cruising at 70-75mph, you be around 4500RPM Killing gas milage. If you wanna go for a upgrade try to lean towards a GSR, or if you have the knowledge or access to it, swap your LS 4th,5th, and Final Drive over into the b16 trans. If you do that you'll get the benefits of b16 1,2 and 3, and the gas milage benefits of a stock LS trans

Yeah i've been thinking of a gsr tranny, dont really know the price difference..maybe $800 for one of them? or i can find a b16 somewhere for 300-400 and do what you said and swap 4,5,and FD.

This is true too. Although wouldn't you lose the acceleration of the b16 if you swap final drives? I feel like the LS final in a b16 would defeat the purpose of buying a b16 to begin with.

I was thinking of maybe just putting an LS 5th into a b16, so i got the power of a b16 but lower rpm in 5th gear when i'm cruising the highway.

This was going to be my next suggestion because if you took the b16 final out you would pretty much have an LS trans again which is pointless. This is the way I would go.
