Should I replace my front axle

My '97 Integra has 220,000 miles. I dropped it off today for a brake job at Midas and they said I need my front left axle shaft replaced. Does this sound likely? No one has brought it up to me until now and I had another mechanic look at the car last week. My ABS light is on and they said it might be related?

I'd welcome any thoughts. I'm trying to determine how long to keep the car. I've loved owning it, but I'm an office working (non-gear head) woman who often has young kids in this car. Is it time to say good-bye?

It could be a small rip in the cv boot, which could have grown bigger since when you took it to your mechanic last. Axles are items which are replaced every so often. If your axle is the cause of your abs light, then you have the wrong axle in. It most likely doesnt have the ABS ring on it.

These cars with normal maintancence will last 1 million miles like all good hondas. I would keep it unless you want something safer for your family.

If you do decide to replace axles, have them order them for a 1997 Acura Integra GSR. That will ensure it has the ABS ring on it. Ive found if you buy it for the LS.RS.or SE models they typically come without it.
