Short out and weird noise

Today i was out driving around and everything was fine. Pulled over and was going to teach my cousin to drive and when he tried to take off he stalled. At this point i told him to start the car again and when he did the power went. Turned it off took the key out and i went and looked under the hood everything was fine. I hoped in turned the key and a strange sound started, loud buzzingish sound. Located the source of the noise and it was the seat belt motor warning. I have no clue what to do from here.

New update. was able to jump it off but if i let off the gas it would die. i am thinking its either the battery or the alternator now. the tach was jumping as i drove it back to the house and as soon as i stopped it died. Its just strange since 2 hrs ago we were driving down the road and it started just fine. any ideas?

Looking for my next Teg..
check your grounds... especially the negative battery clamp and cable. it can cause weird issues like you describe.

You can also get a multimeter out and check battery voltage with the car off.. it should sit at 12.5V or so with no drop. Now start the car and keep it running... you should see voltage drop to around 11 or so volts then go up to 14 or so then gradually taper down around 13.2. anything below 13 volts with the car running indicates the Alternator may be on it's way out... also if you notice voltage not stay steady it could be an indicator. if you see any of the isses described you may ant to pull the alternator and have it bench tested.

Another part that could be failing ( but least likely by your description) could be your coil unit inside the distributor. you can test the resistance using a multimeter again.. I forte exact resistance ranges off the top of my head but they are easy enough to find out there.
