Shaved Door Moldings

How many of you CI guys have shaved those nasty door moldings off your car? I'm currently in the process of doing so and it's working (and looking) pretty well. So far it's just ripping off the moldings, sanding and fiber glassing the holes, then just sanding, bond-o and more sanding. Anyone got pics or a how-to to make it a little more perfect?

Props on getting rid of the moldings.
I also fiberglassed mine and I did the spoiler holes at the same time
Sorry I don't have any pics of the actuall process

Thanks, I'm also thinking about doing the spoiler holes while I'm at it, just haven't made my decision to get rid of the wing yet...I'm liking that clean look though w/o it

i used a small piece of sheet metal and quite a bit of jb weld to hold the metal piece in place. then a thin layer of bondo to fill in the hole

it was pretty easy. it took me a while tho because i only was able to work on it for an hour or two after work and then it got dark. took me about a week to do. lots of sanding with a sanding block to make the holes flush. some white primer, frost white, wet sand, clear, wet sand, wax/polish and :thumbs up

Nice, but ill stick with my moldings.

Id like to shave off the handles for security purposes though.

jb weld ftw! I may actually give that a shot rather than welding the holes shut 8)

I do got one question about the process. I've already got the moldings themselves off, but some of the connectors (mainly the front and rear ones on the door) wont come out like the rest...what should I do? I was thinking just use a fairly sharp blade and slice em?

thats why you swap with keyless door handles :thumbs up

Coy, you could really screw with people holding that steering wheel out the window while you're driving beside them.

picture of as soon as painting, hole shaving, wet sanded, wax was all over with.

Looks good, just needs drop from there. Also, you might want to re-word your post...could lead to some off color jokes:lol:

theres a 10mm bolt that holds the ends i believe. its been so long since i took mine off. or, just grab a pair of pliars and use that to pinch and push the tab out.

as for the steering wheel, you bet your ass i mess with fools on the roads :rolf:

you should do the whole fake swerve thing. Remove the steering wheel and fake swerve with the wheel off.

dang i love the look of the no moldings i was thinking of doing it when i start my body work! i plan on welding them up i did this on an older civic i had. the only downside is those moldings kind of protect against door dings

Bump on this kinda old thread, any more pics??
I wanna see some of Silver 3rd gen Tegs..
I'm thinking about doing it, but leaning mostly on NOT doing it. It makes the car look too plain!

Let's see some more pics!
