Selling my grand prix

So I informed my folks that I am selling my car that they gave me a hell of a deal on two years ago. There both like hard core "don't buy foreign vehicles" but I am not like that at all. My mom tried to tell me that if anything goes wrong with a honda or acura it cost tons of money and that you generally can't do the work yourself. I was talking to my boys and they just laughed because they say they are extremly easy to work on. I know this is going to start a war between my folks and I but I am bored with my car and want to have something that I am excited to drive. Just thought I would share that with you guys.

yea they are just wierd. They both grew up near detroit so that doesn't help much with their loyalty to american cars even though the foreign cars seem to perform much better.

well now...
all cars have their flaws and defects but for foreign cars, japanese (i can't speak for european) aren't that costly to repair when ever, and if ever, they break

so i'd drive foreign over american anyday

bmw's and european cars are alot more expensive to fix that a honda or an acura, hondas and acuras are pretty easy to work on too

I think it's just part of the generation gap between us younger people and our parents. Foreign cars exploded in popularity just in the last 20 years or so. It started from the oil crises in the 70's and early 80's, foreign cars were much more fuel efficient than domestics and got very popular. Later on, people began to notice the reliability and resale value that foreign cars held over domestics, led by Japanese makes most of all.
So in a nutshell, they don't know what their saying! :) Our cars are as easy to work on, if not easier, than domestics. A foreign car will cost more to initially buy than a comperable domestic, but it'll more than repay that extra cost with longer life and better fuel efficiency.

I understand where your coming from.

My parents never owned a import in their lives... My 2nd home was at my aunt and uncles who were hardcore domestic lovers.

I grew up doing little jobs around a 600+WHP 64 Elcomino with a 454 (at the moment it has a 572 :D ), a original 64 Chevelle SS (only non original thing is 1 of 4 headlights, tires, 1 window, headlight/tail light bulbs, battery, alternator, paint etc...), 1950 GMC pick up etc...

Then i come out the blue with a Integra.

Iv experienced fast cars (obviously) and Domestic's luxury cars... But something about these integra's keep drawing me back to them.

When i was selling my first Integra (automatic) the original plan was to get a 5.0 87-93 mustang 5spd or a 5-6spd 5.0-5.7L camaro... I ended up with a 5spd integra... They are soo easy to work on, the parts are easyer then shit to find and they are so easily modifieable...

Oh and for reliability.

Both of my integra's have NEVER left me stranded :::knocks on wood:::

My dad's 00 Durango (original owner) has 75K miles and has made about 20+ trips to the dealer ship to fix anything from Seat belts to transmission (x2).

My brothers 99 Taurus' (80K miles) tranny is completely shot and has a electrical problem.

My aunts 95 Grandam (150K miles) just gives problem after another from transmission to the paint peeling off.

My uncles 02 Chrysler 300M special edition (40K miles) has not many problems other then front bumper falling off without bumping into anything, Just alot of the metal screws on the newer cars are replaced with plastic ones.

My mom got her first import in 03... a 03 camry... it now has 60K miles and has only 1 problem, the paint on the rear bumper is fadeing faster then the rest of the car.

My integra has 155K miles and running strong, except i changed the basics on what you would think you need to change with a car with that miles (clutch, alternator etc...)
