My driver side automatic seatbelt stop working about 2 weeks ago. ive been some research to see whats wrong and appearently theres a lifetime warranty for the seatbelts so i could take it to an acura dealer and theyll fix it for free. But ive seen that sometimes they refuse to fix it because its not the "seatbelt" thats broken, its soething electrical, so i wanted to know if this is true or will they fix it for me? Also i do not have the original seats in the car, would that somehow void the warranty??

That is true. You need to go to Acura and let them figure out what the issue is. There isn't much you can do if it's not covered other than pay to get it fixed.
You could check the fuse first. Could be something that simple.

Could i take it in and have them figure out whats wrong with it for free but not have them fix it if the warranty is voided? Or would a dearlership charge to even take a look at it?

call and find out. the seats might void it but idk. if its a clean title you should be good

Most dealerships charge around $100 to diagnose the issue. If you decide to fix it they usually apply that to the cost of repairs.

Keep It Clean
Dealerships want cash all the time. I highly doubt they will check it out for free. Even if it's under a seatbelt warranty they will try and squeeze some money out of you. Try and fix it your self.

Hey bud, I had the following problem. The seatbelt would go to forward position once door was opened, but would not go back once i turned the car on. I took it to the dealership, they looked at it, and diagnosed it as a faulty return belt or something like that. I asked about the warranty, and they told me yes the inspection is covered, but Acura no longer makes the parts for my car (1992) so even if they wanted to fix it, they couldnt, and they wouldnt put in a junkyard part.

So what i did was go to the junkyard near my city, and took out the supposed faulty part. After replacing it in my Teg, the same problem would occur. I concluded that it is highly unlikely that BOTH seatbelts have a faulty return belt. After doing some compare and contrast of my passenger door(worked 100% fine) to driver door, i was hearing a "Click" when the door was closed on the passenger side, and was not when it was closed on drivers side.

What happened to be my problem was the electronic sensor that senses when the driver door is open or closed had rusted over or something. What im talking about is the circular "holes" on the car (not door) right to the left of your shoulder when sitting in the drivers seat. Try cleaning those, and seeing if that fixes your problem

The only reason i typed this all out is because i literally spent hours trying to figure out that damned seatbelt, and I was only hoping to find help somehwere, but i never found it. So now, I am your help

Good luck

I went to Acura last week because both of my lap buckles were broken, and none of the belts lock up when pulled. They told me they could only replace the buckles because that's what the recall specifies.

So my buckles work now, but I'm still going through the windshield if I hit something. It's BS.
