Hello all,

I am currently compiling data on the import consumption subculture for my consumer behavior class, and I was looking to fellow enthusiasts for and information that you all may have or anything acredited about the world we so avidly participate in. All information will be appreciated, only stipulation is I can not accept anything with your person like or dislike as im forming an unbiased research paper.

Peace

So what are you looking for? What we buy? What we do in our spare time? Do we race and what kind type of stuff?

What I'm looking for is basically past articles on the ever growing popularity of Imports and modifying them I remember an article on autocannons website about the import market being the fastest growing target market in the US but they changed their website and no longer provide that information. A question that would help is when did everyone get into tuning and why did u get into it? That would be a huge help as from there I can see how long we have been doing this as there have been many that have come and gone from the scene. Maybe that helps shed more light as to what im trying to get at.

I'll help you out. I have no problem doing so.

I'm 19 years old and started in the car scene when I was a freshman in high school in Auto class. I found that cars were the way of individuality, and a way to stay out of trouble. What I mean by idividuality is that you can modify your car the way you like it. I mean two people can buy the same car and leave em stock and they will still have the same car. But if you take two people who buy the same car and then they mod their car the way they want it, those cars are no longer the same car. Every person puts their own touch of uniqueness in their car.

Of course the movie "The Fast and the Furious" really jumped the import scene, but that's not the movie that really started it all. Think back to James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause" and John Travolta in "Greese", among other movies throughout the years. Racing and modding cars has been around for decades. I look at my dad as a mentor. He took a Wrambler Station Wagon and dropped a Corvette engine into when he was in high school. That was his car no one elses, no one could come close to having a car just like his.

I see modding my car or cars as a hobby, something to do thats hands on. Of course I could write a book, or direct a play, but there's nothing like getting your hands dirty, cut, bruised and bloody from modding out your personality. There's just something I take pride in seeing a stock, ordinary car turn into one hellacious street machine.

How's that work for ya? If you have any questions, feel free to ask. PM me.
