Replaced o2 sensor and cel won't go off

On my 96 integra, the check engine light came on. Took it to my mechanic and he said it was an o2 sensor. He could not get the cel to go out. I believe he told me that there are 3 o2 sensors on the car. He checked the others, tried another o2 sensor, and spent the better part of the day trying to get the cel to go off. I have been driving it for a year with the cel on and it runs great. Anyone else experience this and know how to turn off the cel. I need to sell the car next year, so it would be nice for the cel to be off by then.

Wait so your mechanic didn't replace the o2 sensor? I'm guessing yours is obd1 since it's a 96 model and therefore should only have 1 o2 sensor. If you did replace it and it's still throwing the light it could be something else.

ok to make the code go ahead you can just reset it with a obd2 checker or you can disconnent your battery for like 1 min and go drive around see if the CEL comes back and if it dose its your cat
