reliability of the LS/Vtec

ok i am looking to go LS/vtec wit my teg, but i have always heard that it is like putting a ticking time bomb in your car. I have been told that a Ls/vtec motor can giveout at any moment.

i would like to know what i would have to do to my built to make a reliable LS/Vtec motor.??? What in the engine goes bad..?

i want to keep my motor and my car for as long as i can. currently the motor only has about 105k on it. it is ha 98 LS with a built GSR trans.
