redlining regularly, bad for the engine?

So I have a '90 GS with 207,000km on it with a reline at 6,700rpm(roughly), and I redline (or close to) it practically everyday. Is this bad for the engine or should I be okay? I hear it shortens the life of the engine...

The engine is made to handle it physically, but it will wear out the engine faster than normal driving. And it destroys your gas mileage.

LOL x2

I do it a couple times a week in my gsr (well I go to 7600) and Ive been doing that for 20000 miles and I am currently at 176000 - I know its not good for it but Ive been lucky so far

Better to not do it if your worried about it, I dont worry because I want to build motor so if that happens then there is my reason to rebuild lol

And as the mileage goes, I still get an avg of 29 city so.........

A couple times a week vs. a couple timas a day is a big difference. I redline a couple times a week too, my mileage is in the high 20's, not quite 29 but I have a built motor.

a redline occasionally isn't going to affect anything. it's a sports car, you need to remind it occasionally by giving it some.

hitting it everyday on a motor which has done 200,000 miles is over doing it though, everything in moderation. cars granny driven at low revs throughout their life is not going to like it when you suddenly open the taps on that long spiritied drive.

thats right.
lets just put it this way, if u NEVER rev high with it then it actually HURTS the engine. the engine uses the high revs to basically help clean itself out. but continued high rev driving will put more wear on the engine and all its parts

I never drive around at high rpm, I normally cruise at 2-3k. I only rev high when I'm accelerating to try to beat someone in a merge lane, or on the highway.
