rebuilding engine on my own

So I was just wondering how some pro's felt about my deli-ma. I dont feel i can trust or that i should trust my mechanic and i want to rebuild my engine myself. Im pretty sure that isnt a good idea but considering all the information availible at my finger tips, "online" i figured i would get some opinions, maybe even a lil advice and then make the decision. I learned quite alot from my Mach. but im smart enough to know theres alot of tedious work that cannot be wrong or youve wasted your time all together. I guess what im trying to say is would it be worth all the money it would take to have it built by a mechanic shop or can it be done and done right by a novice with the right comprehension skills, and dedication? Honest opinions

I have the top end disassembled. I want to have it ported and polished, and punched 40 over. The engine is going to be naturally aspirated. No turbo, no nos and i want like 11:1 to 12:1 compression. Im ordering a rebuild kit from perfect engine.com. The kit i believe comes with pistons, and Its a little over 500$ all together. Im going to do a lil more research on the kit before i actually buy it to find out if it does come with pistons. Im going to completely make over this engine adding perfomance parts as i go. Any:hithead::hithead::hithead::hithead::hithead::hithead:ways, Can IT be done with Confidence?

Sure it can be done, I rebuilt mine myself.

You will need to use a machine shop's services to clean up the head, do a valve job, resurface the head, bore out the cylinders if they are scarred up or if you simply want to go with larger pistons, deck the block, etc.

It can most certainly be done by a garage mechanic, but it is not an inexpensive journey. I have a rebuild thread on here, and I suggest you get a comprehensive manual and read it thoroughly. Hondahookup.com is a good site with lots of PDF honda manuals.

You may just want to get a gasket kit if you plan on getting higher compression pistons. The ones that come in the kit are more than likely the stock low compression pistons.

hell yea thats what i wanna hear! Thanks man. Yea i guess your right about the pistons i didnt really think about that. But if im not mistaken you answered my Q in another thread and it was all about pistons. Ill be reading more into the link from that thread about pistons, and the manuals from honda hookup . com. If i have any trouble or need some advice i know where im going with it. Oh and hey bro how do i find that thread you have about your build?
