Rear Axle Help

Recently purchased an 89 Acura Integra. The rear end makes a thud sound when I hit a bump. I thought the struts were loose but when I jumped on the back of the car I heard nothing. It only makes the noise when I push on the sides of the rear tires. Any idea what this could be? Bearings perhaps?

mines doing the same thing. narrowed it down to the rear axle/stablizer assembly & panhard rod.

took it apart today & discovered that the panhard rod mounting bolt on the rear axle wasn't torqued to spec. after torqueing it the noise went away, but my swing bearings do have a little play in them.

Its a FWD vehicle. Explain to me how in the world it has rear axle?
lot of FWD autos have rear axles. axles, not drive shafts or half-shafts in the rear. the rear axle & panhard rod set up keeps the wheels/suspension from drifting side to side when the car is in motion. its honda part # is 42100-SE7-670.
