Hey CI!

I was reading over tranny comparisons and i saw a lot of people say that the itr tranny and the b16 tranny were very similar. They also said that the itr tranny has a lsd which makes it superior.. i was wondering what exactly does a lsd do?

it's not a type of transmission. Instead of an open differential and one tire burnouts you have a limited slip differential. This helps to impove traction some only for acceleration but some also decceleration. Basically it's something important especially if you have a lot of power. There are lots of types out there but the most common on factory cars is a viscous lsd. There are multiple plates with a viscous fluid in between them. One one side starts turning at a different speed then the oppisite it puts shearing forces on the liquid and the liquid responds by thickening and hence working to bring both wheels to the same speed. The second most common which is stonger is a clutch type. The amount of force the clutches hold together is determined by how much torque is coming from the driveshaft. More torque equals more clamping force and the wheels will spin more evenly. There is a lot more info but that is the basics.
