Quick LS/VTEC concern

Okay, i've been doing research by myself on doing the ls/vtec conversion (I've even posted this:
Killer B's Mass ls/vtec info
to help you guys understand certain parts better).

But there is one thing I've been wondering that I can't find out myself.

Assuming i've got the VTEC head, oil lines, VTEC ECU, solenoid wiring, etc all ready to go; will I need the GSR (or B16) camshafts and valve springs? I was thinking yes because my current B18B1 cams are non-vtec; but I wasn't sure so I wanted to confirm this. And I also wasn't sure if the LS valve springs are high enough lift for the VTEC cams.

Thanks for yo time! :D :thumbs up

you need the other valvetrain. It doesn't bolt up to the vtec head at all.

If you're going to be in there, I suggest you upgrade from stock anyways. I'm pretty sure they type R stuff is an upgrade, but I'm not 100% on that.

the B18B1 cams I'm pretty sure don't even sit in the C1 head the same.

Oh okay, so you'd need all the valve springs, retainers, cams from the VTEC head? What about the valves? They should be same.... Well, thanks that clears things up. I'll probably either strip some cams and valve springs from a gsr in a junkyard (if I can find one with the engine still in it....)

I'm not sure about the valves, but I recomend you just upgrade the whole upper end with something new.

I know for a complete rebuild kit on my D series head I built I got everything to rev to 10k for 600 bucks.

it's worth it to save the money and get parts that are going to last rather then using used, old parts in something you're constantly moving over 3000 rpm a day, know what I mean?

True. I forget about the part where the car has been sitting baking in the sun for who knows how long. Well, i'll probably jsut stick with OEM GSR cams, but i've done a little searching for vavle springs, and might as well upgrade them.... I almost bought a set of Type-R valve springs for $20, but i got outbid several times on ebay lol. Finally ended @ $35.

lol, that's not bad.

But yeah... anything internal I'm going with new aftermarket... I'll put used parts on my car, but engine wise I'm sticking with new stuff

Yeah, things like intakes, headers, etc. you can use used, but the internals of your engine? Very true. Should be new parts... I'll consider that train of thought..... Not even sure if i'd be going ls/vtec, just been trying to find out more info about it. Thanks, you've helped a bunch, once again. :thumbs up

I have gsr cams for sale if you need them. To the op you will need a complete b-series vtec valvetrain. Nothing is compatible, except the cam gears, they're the same for all b-series.
