Pure O2????

Ok, well i got to thinkin the other night, and i asked myself; Can a car be run on pure oxygen and gas instead of plain ol' air and gas? If so, since oxygen burns well would this provide any horsepower gains? Or is combustion only possible if regular air and gasoline are mixed then detonated? Hmmm...just curious....Or would this be some kind of equivilent to Nitrous? (I dont think so but...) Maybe it would burn less or more or something? I honestly dont know, so i would like to see if maybe someone knows anything about this...

Please dont try, pure o2 is VERY VERY dangerous and will explode violently, as in your engine car, and you will not longer be here, tecnically yes it will yield more hp, but thats why nitrous is not pure o2 it has innert gases just for that purpose

Think of an oxy/acetylene torch. The gas burns nice, then what happens when you add pure oxygen....it burns very hot and violently and cuts straight through metal. I would want my pistons on the wrong side of a burn like that. Nitrous is just a safer form of doing this and contains much more oxygen than regular air.

I knew someone would mention an oxyacetylene torch....hahaha....and hell no im not gonna try it,
but oxygen alone wont burn,(if I'm not mistaken) and thats why the acetylene is there to start the flame, and then from there, the flame that the acetylene makes allows oxygen burn......right?

From what i understand, the nitrogen is there to start the burn of the nitrous mixture and then the oxygen is there to act as a fuel for the burn...?
Do i understand this correctly?

Trust me I use to work with pure o2 back when I was in the military, both gas an liquid, this shit is dangerous especially liquid any impurity on it a spec of dirt anything and the whole building goes, nitrous is a close as it gets, nitrogen is a inert gas does not burn is there for the cooling effect and the co2 is there for presurisation of the bottle

wow!! that'd be scary, pure 02. Dosnt the nitrogen in the N2O act as a coolant in the motor( I think the N2O molecule decomposes into its elements at ~550 derees F)

either way the combustion chamber isnt built for that kind of reaction, if you can blow a motor on Nawz then pure o2 will probably do the same, only quicker, and the whole acetlyne thing, yea theres gas there to ignite and theres the spark, then you add toooo much o2 and you get an explosion that the bottom end and the head wont be able to handle, thats why pure 02 is used to help cut metal, go 150 shot :D

Yeah, it was just one of those "What if" questions thats been buggin me for a while now...hmmm....150 shot sounds good.....hmmmm.....nitrous....:yummy:
