Project car paint

Hi there,

I recently bought a da, its in pretty good shape but it has a couple surface rust spots.
Also, the car used to be red but the previous owner bought a cheap paint job and now the clear coat is so faded and cracking.
Im wondering what the best option is to paint the car, obviously I can afford thousands of dollars for a paint job at the moment.
Any advice is useful, i have no idea how to proceed or even which direction to go in.
Something cheap that will last and look decent for at least a year.

Have you tried using a clay bar on the current paint. It could be possible that its just oxidized. Lets see some pics though.

Yeah, that clear's toast.

Honestly it depends on what you want to do with it. You could go buy some scotch-brite pads and flat-black rattle cans and spray the car in your driveway, if that would make you happy. Otherwise, if you have access to compressed air and a garage, you can get spray guns for cheap, buy some inexpensive paint and clear, and depending on how much bodywork you need, you could do a decent respray yourself for less than a grand. Ultimately it depends on what your goal is, and frankly what you can live with.
