Alright so my car's battery died and I popped the hood only to discover that one of my pipes connected to the engine has ruptured. I want to know what is this part called, what caused the damage and how much to replace or if I can do it my self.

Appears to be your radiator hose, did the car not overheat on you? I'd suspect you lost most of your coolant. A new one is fairly cheap, I hope you didn't drive it around too long like that though.

Can this be a do it yourself job? Also anybody know how much it costs to loosen the timing belt?

Upper radiator hose? It's two clamps then you need to refill the motor with the proper amount of antifreeze and water.

What do you mean by loosen the timing belt?

CAHLEAN!
Go to Kragen or autozone WITH that hose(but don't drive that car) and show them and they will get you squared up.
