Polishing painted rims. Can it be done?

Hey guys,

I've been searching for a descent set of 16" slipstreams and finally found some but they are flat black. I wanted polished...

Can I strip the paint and polish the rim to get a nice shine? I mean, I'm sure it's possible but would it take too much work? Will it be worth the effort?

What do you think?

Thanks in advanced!

Yea you can polish them, the easier way would be buying paint stripper, (I bought Klean Strip brand for my LS webs and my valve cover), then after spraying it on, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, after letting sit I would use a wire brush to scrub off the paint. BTW wear gloves during the process, then after all the paint is off, start the polishing process. Im currently polishing my rims so I can anodize them purple, I bought them with some nasty monster green color.

yup, buy some aircraft remover or some kind of paint stripper, couple grits of sand paper, and some polishing compound and you're set. obviously you're gonna put in some elbow grease to get it done right.

what part of Pa?.... I only ask because there seems to be many people selling polished slips in the tri-state area. it depends on how much you are getting the rims for I guess. also there are a lot of guys who do the job on 15/16 inch rims for like 150, and do any color/scheme you want. I believe the new thing is just having the rim powdercoated with the look of polished or annodized colors w/w.o. clearcoats, etc....
