I know people have done this before. Especially those going for the sleeper look and paint all the piping and Intercooler Black.
Are there any write ups or final pictures on this?...
I know painting the fmic is Okay as long as you dont overspray the fins. but what paint is recommended for this?
Also the hotside of my turbo and Manifold looks rusted, Is it safe to repaint that? (with some high-temp paint)

Not sure bout how hot the turbo gets but i was also looking into this and i found that exhaust wrap is a waste of time and money unless its on a Harley. And what I found acts like the same way to retain heat is ceramic coating its like powder coating but for hi temp applications. I was going to do my headers for my N/A car but I am also going boost one day…. The piping would be easy and fmic I would go to a paint shop or body shop and ask them about it im not a painter they would know the most about that. And the fmic I don’t think a little paint would hurt it. But remember that u have to sand it down pretty good for paint to stick well. Good luck and I hope this helps!!! And I am also sick of getting ripped on just because I didn’t join the site 3 years ago and have 300 rep points

HA HA yea I know right! I mean I sometimes do research, and If im still not clear on something, I will make a thread to ask about it. Mainly to get my personal questions answered and opinions/advice/etc... But hey... Thats what forums are for, to interact and talk to eachother

But yea, I see what you're saying, because I've read of people who get their intercoolers anodized by paint shops or buy a anodizing spray and DIY. Personally I would like to it myself rather than pay someone to do what I couldve done. Good things has been said about doing a good paint job on the fmic.
And for the hot side of the turbo and manifold, I'm now thinking that I might ceramic coat it, AND wrap it up with heat wrap... (i figure it wont hurt) The cooler the better.

Anodizing from what I know is actually in the metal and never heard of diy. But no clue…and I agree with the cheep way to! But just go to a paint shop and ask em what to use how to prep ect… they for the most part know their stuff its their job to. And with the wrap it holds in heat and moisture which could rust, melt or even crack whatever you wrap it in. that’s what I read before discovering the ceramic coating

That’s y it works for Harley guys because they don’t ride in the rain and if a pipe does crack they are rich ne ways

I have heard good things about heat tape, guys were saying quicker spool and stuff. Just heat wrap the turbo header and alittle of the down pipe.. I dont drive my car in the rain casue it would just be all over anyways

Ik what you’re talking about heat tape is to keep heat away from other things like ac lines or other stuff u dint want getting hot. Exhaust wrap is fiberglass I believe?? Not 100% and that is true about the car in the rain….

YEs heat wrap keeps the heat in and that makes it flow faster... if your intrested in finding out more google it.. but it will crack stuff with dead weight on it

There's paint specifically for intercoolers.

And if you need anything sandblasted to save your preptime shoot me an email!

Any ole spray paint will work for the intercooler and piping. As for the turbo hotside and manifold, have them ceramic coated. It will help with spool time and wont burn off like paint will.
