ok, so im painting my front lip this weekend..but im not too sure on how to..or whether or not i should strip the paint from it. do i use some sort of paint stripper? do i sand? or can i just primer over everything then paint.

you can see how messed up it is...its kinda bad.

Definitely sand it down a bit, then primer, paint, and clear coats.

I think BigMac88 did a painting writeup, either in exterior or the DIY's

don't need to use paint stripper.

as mentioned give it a decent sand, start with a lower grit to give it a good cut then move you way up to a finer grit to smooth the surface.

next use a wet cloth and wipe away any remaining bits on the surface. thin layer of primer, color and then clear.

320 will do the job :thumbs up
thats what im using on the civic's bumper to prep it for paint. then work your way to a finer sand paper.

320 then bump it up by 200 or some shit everytime? and i do that after primer too? or just a fine sand after prime?

question...my front lip has huge chips in the paint..

how can i paint this well? im going to repaint the entire lip.
just sand til the part where is chipped and the part where its still painted are smoothed into each other should be ok.

yep, 1000 is too fine, it'll take you forever. start with a 320, finish it off with 1000 and if you want a perfect surface, you could also use 1500. don't sand the primer unless you have overspray. take your time with it.
