Overheating

I went and searched through the threads and done a lot of google searching but it seems like I could be having one of many problems.

The car will overheat in about 5-10 minutes, When I turn her off coolant will leak out of the back side of the engine. I haven't been able to exactly see the spot its coming from but its neither hose for the radiator. There seems to be a little bit of coolant/oil at the front by the serial numbers but no leak coming from the hose there.

The top hose is hot and the bottom hose isn't hot but not cool for the radiator. The coolant reservoir has a sticky black kinda paste inside of it.

I haven't noticed any funny residue in the oil and the radiator isn't milky. Both fans are working .It has backfired a few times but not loud and not very badly. It will start to cool down when I'm over 40mph but go back up and go back down. when its idle or low it will get hot very fast.

I have it parked now, but wondering which of these it is most likely going to be.

1.thermostat
2.waterpump
3.headgasket

What I suggest is look inside the rad if it's bad with the gunky stuff pull it out and flush your system put some new fluid in flush the resivoir and see if that changes anything if not try a thermostat if you put a thermostat in with that junk in there you may make the thermo sticky actually first try pulling out the thermostat and running with no thermostat if that fixes it then you need a thermo but take it for a LONG drive
