my sons 92 started overheating one night. so we flushed the system, changed the thermostat, still overheats.. water pump is only 6 months old . here are the symptoms ..
1- overheats to the red in a few minutes doesnt matter if its at idle or running
2- no heat, bottom radiator hose stays cool and one of the heater hoses stays cool
3- no smoke, not loosing coolant, runs fine
4- here is the wierd part. I ran a compession check it was good 150+ on all cylinders,But after i did that i was gonna check the coolant level so when i opened the radiator cap there was a lot of pressure built up in the radiator it blowed antifreeze about 8 inches high and it built this pressure just from turning the motor over for the compression check.

What could be causing the poor circulation and the building of pressure in the system? waterpump bad or is somthing cracked.. please help we need his car for school

there is nothing mixing together at all i have been a auto tech for 17 yrs but never had much experience with these engines i know they are sleeved and the radiator has been changed its like nothing is circulating and when the temp guage pegs to the red i can lay my hand on the engine and its not that hot but it could be the water pump. what would happen if the car had frozen up could it break the water pump?

Possibly a faulty sensor?

Honda water pumps very rarely fail. Take that from someone who though I haven't worked on cars as long as you, I have exclusively worked on hondas/acuras at a dealership for over 6 years now, and still never seen a honda water pump that failed. Belts will break usually before the water pump fails.

my car did the same thing. i have a 90 GS. it didnt do it until i drove it about 4 hours straight one day on the highway. after that, it would heat up very fast and build up pressure. one day, the radiator busted. i replaced it, and its been fine ever since. so my guess is it is the radiator itself.

if its building up pressure that quick like that, like Jim said, its most likely a HG starting to go.

its pretty easy to replace if you have the tools, takes around 2-4hrs if you take your time.

Sounds like your head gasket to me. Milky coolant or oil at all?
If it builds up pressure just turning it over, you have definitely got a crack in the head or a leaking head gasket.

There's a guide on changing your head gasket, check the "How To" list in my signature.
Easy peasy. :)
