my teg will slowly overheat when the heat not on full blast. The coolant level is full.
it seems to go down when i give it gas.
I thought OEM thermostats were about that much? I've gotten a few faulty thermostats from the parts store before. I've learned from my mistake. Peace of mind > a couple dollars, IMO. I go to the dealer for that now.
Some things to consider: are you venting your air from outside when the heat's on or circulating? Is your heater still working properly? Loss of heat? Leaks? Did you remember to bleed the coolant afterwards? How many miles are on the car? Providing more info. will probably help others help you troubleshoot.
I could be wrong, but I'm going to guess that you're venting the air from outside since you mentioned the temp. going down when you're on the gas? lol...I do that when my p.o.s. Integra overheats. temporary solution lol
what would be my first step????can you tell if a thermostat is bad by looking at it????
You can test a thermostat by putting it in some water and heating it up. You'll probably want to use a thermometer to check what temperature the thermostat closes and opens at -- compare that to when it should.
