Overheating issue

Hey guys I am stuck and don't know what to do. So I have a 93 DA and I recently changed the thermostat 3 months ago and I "burped" the cooling system but recently after the car warms up sometimes the temp gauge fluctuates. Now I am not sure if the thermostat was the wrong one or it might have gone bad already but my check engine light is also on now, it also seems but i am not sure if my fan is turning on because either the car is not that warm and the gauge is reading wrong or i might need a new fan switch. I have checked all the fuses and they are good, please I could use any help you can give me.

get a 1.3 bar radiator cap if you want to go that way. did you get a new gasket for your thermostat or reuse one?

How would I check the code I have a diagnostic kit would that work or do these older DA not have the ports, also the light doesn't come on till after it warms up all the way. I will try the radiator cap. Thank you.

I am not sure my buddy put it in while I was on vacation when he was using the car, so I may just go get a new thermostat and gasket and throw it in this weekend.

is your coolant level low? or is your temp gauge just going towards H?

you may still have some air in the system.

as for the diagnostic search "self diagnostics" there's a few threads on how to do it

Try hooking up your fan directly to power to see if it turns on.
If it does you may either need a new fan relay or coolant temperature sensor.
And there's a diagnostic plug behind the passenger side kickpanel.

If the fans don't come on, it could be the fan switch. I agree with Shane on the 1.3 bar cap and put a new thermostat and gasket on. The thermostat and gasket shouldn't cost you more than $25, so just replace it to take it out of the list of possible problems.
