I dont know whats going on, just purchased the car and this is my first turbocharged car. I can drive it for 15 minutes then the temp meter starts going up. What could this be? Do i need a thermostat? The car does have a aluminum radiator, could that be the problem?please help...

A full size radiator should be able to cool the engine effectively enough to prevent that. Some things you may want to check:

Is their coolant in the radiator? Is it boiling into the overflow and if so, is it clear like water or orange/green to show there is antifreeze/coolant in it?
Is the lower radiator hose hot or cold? Its easy to find, its the large hose on the passenger side that hooks into the bottom of the radiator. If it is cold, or at least not hot like the upper hose, it could mean that the thermostat is stuck closed and not opening to allow coolant to flow through the system.

Is the car tuned? Incorrect timing can cause overheating.

why dont you actually give us a list of what is done on the car, and what youve done to it. Overheating can be caused by a lot of things.

well i would love to give a list but honestly I dont know. I purchased the car this way from a dealership. I am going to start with changing the thermostat, then I am going to get the timing belt done and then the tuning hopefully this will cover mos of what is going on with the car

Did you get any warranty or any information from this dealership? I would take it back and have them diagnose and correct this issue.

Yea called them today and will have to set an appointment... I think its the fan, it doesnt turn on at all... So i checked the fuses and they are all good so just gotta keep looking... But in this rate i will change the fan thermostat and hoses... And it should all be covered

If you're moving the car should stay cool fairly well.
Yes, the fan should not play any role in cooling the car when you are moving. More air will be forced through the radiator when you are driving than the fan can suck in. If you are overheating while driving, its not an issue with the fan.

Well its mostly when i stop that the needle starts going up, so i take it is a combo of the thermostat and the fan? Idk i just know it needs to get fixed lol...

Are you running a half radiator? Is your coolant full? I would start diagnosing why your fans aren't working.

either way the fans are suppose to be working, so change the fans and thermostat. also, check if ther is hole in the radiator or if its leaking from somewhere

You can geta new fan for cheap as hell. If you have an aftermarket fan already chances are your connection is s***. Check the connection and if it seens to be bad or it is just using butt connectors, just cut it and solder or use better connectors. If it doesn't work and your fan is actually bad then buy another one. If it over heats while sitting it could just be because the fan isn't kicking on so follow the steps first. if fan starts to work and car still over heats while sitting then you need a thermostat.
