Oil pan gasket, 9th attempt, PLEASE HELP!! :-)

Hey guys,

Well, yesterday was my 9th attempt to replace my oil pan gasket and not have it leak. I have tried an autozone gasket, a napa gasket, and yesterday even an OEM gasket from acura. I tried 2 different pans, checked the pans and block for warpage, I have tried it with and without silicone, and followed the haynes, helms, and even the dealer torque sequence and used the dealers torque spec. Im pretty much at my witts end. With the any gasket and no silicone, when I even come close to the torque spec, the gasket squeezes out on the front drivers side of the pan by the front corner of the oil pan and it starts leaking. The dealers torque spec says 9 ft lbs, and when I get to about 5 I can see it starting to come out. When I do use a light coating of silicone, itll start to leak by the flywheel, lol im chasing a leak. Im pretty much stumped. I have a degree in automotive repair and engineering, and I worked at a ford dealer as a master tech a few years back and to be getting stumped by something as simple as a gasket is really pissing me off. I have searched far and wide and from what I have read it SHOULD be a simple 15 minute job. I have heard somewhere that there is a gasket available that is the rubber over the metal type, and I have had good luck with those type of gaskets on other applications before. Does anyone know where I can get one, and can Anyone help me please? Im going nuts lol.

Let somebody else do it, buy a new motor and don't touch it, or live with it. If you arent leaking much (couple drops a day) then just check it every week and top it off as needed.

I wish it was just a couple drops a day, its more like a quart a day, seriously. I think im just gonna stick another oem one on there and torque it to 4 foot lbs and see what happens. Its weird to have it squeeze out the sides at the specified torque. I havent ever seen that before, only if you got all gorilla on it and torqued the hell out of it lol.

This is a somewhat common problem. At my dealership if this continues to happen and bugs the customer we just clean it off and apply a light coating of Honda Bond around the edges.

RTV sucks ass. Use Honda Bond or nothing at all honestly.

So its pouring out? Leaving a puddle on the ground?

Your issue may be larger than just the gasket.

ohh yea, its leaking to the point where the oils blowing back onto the axles, getting thrown up by the belts, and dripping down the subframe rail. I can crawl under it and see it dripping from the front corner of the gasket by the oil pump. I changed the oil pump not too long ago but5 I sealed the hell out of it. Im gonna try a new oem gasket a light coat of sealer and tighten to 4.5 and see if that works because theres no way the gasket should be squeezing out at the specified torque and the proper sequence. I degresed the entire engine this weekend and jacked it up and let it run and I could see it coming out. I just wanted to make sure it wasnt coming from the cam seals or the valve cover gasket.

I got a new gasket on it yesterday and it didnt seem to leak until i drove it down the street and it look slike oil got flung all over the place, im starting to wonder if maybe the front main got damaged. I know the pan gaskets leaking because I can watch it drip pit slowly, but in my mind I wouldnt think that oil from a leaky pan gasket would be able to get onto the lip above the oil pan on the oil pump itself. I think ill just go ahead and change the front main while im down there for goot measure, and the timing belt again because it looks like it has gotten oil on it and I dont want it to skip timing. I helped my friend change his front main way back in the day and I remember it was quite a pain in the ass because the inner lip kept trying to fold back on itself and the lil spring on the inside lip of the seal kept trying to pop out when we put it in. Anyone know any tricks so I dont have to deal with that when I do mine? Thanks guys...
