Oil on valve cover

When I was cleaning up my engine bay I noticed that Im getting oil residue almost a small film forming on the valve cover around where the gasket is but the gasket doesnt appear to be damaged or leaking and its only a few months old so its been recently replaced. Any ideas what it could be.

maybe the valve cover gasket was installed incorrectly and oil is leaking out?

show us a picture of where the oil is coming out

I dont have a camera right now but its just a little bit of a film only on the valve cover and not really below the cover on anything else and its all the way across the front and a small part in the center on the back. Its not a lot but I dont want to take any chances. I also checked and the gasket is installed correctly. The guy at oreillys told me it could be that there is pressure built up and maybe its forced out around the gasket but im not sure what would cause that even if that was true. any ideas?

Make sure the filler cap is secure. Replace the PCV valve and if the leak persists, grab a new VC gasket. Fel-Pro manufactures a gasket for the B18A1 and it sells in most shops for around 25 to 28 dollars. Clean the underside of the valve cover in the trough in which the gasket fits and also where the gasket goes flush with the top surface of the cylinder head. Try to get it spotless. If you end up having to do this, make sure that the VC bolts are torqued to about 7 ft-lbs and in the correct tightening pattern (i don't know what the CORRECT pattern is but when I replaced my VC gasket I used some pattern) Also, as it happens on my car, check the underside of the little black cap at the the end of the camshaft next to the distributor. See if there is a droplet of oil on there.

I have a feeling that someone will tell me i don't know what im talking about. :p

X2

I had a similar problem with mine and I changed the pcv valve and hoses and it seems to have cleared up the problem.
