Oil Filter!!!

I changed the oil in my car yesterday. And i drained the old oil, oil to realize that my old oil filter is stuck on my car. I spent HOURS under my car pulling and twisting trying to get it off, but it wouldnt budge. After a while i gave up and just put the new oil in my car. So my question is, are there any tips on how i could get the damn filter off. And also would i need new oil for the engine again or could i just put in the same oil i just put in? OR could i just wait until its time to change my oil again to try to get the filter off, or is that a bad idea?

Yes, i was using one. But it didnt want to grip onto the filter. There was no room for it to fit anywhere. Frankly i was able to get a better hold of it with my hand and try to muscle it off, but that got me nowhere.

You should be able to, I got mine off you just have to not be scared to get up inside that bitch, the wrench really comes in handy, i don't have any other suggestions than that.

Believe me, i tried. I couldnt have gotten that much more up in her without taking her out to dinner first. The wrench wasnt really that helpful to me though.

I had one that was so over tightened when I bought my car, that we used the wrench that's like vice grips, and gripped it so hard that the filter collapsed. Still couldn't budge, kept at it until it came off. Took two of us and about 30 mins. Was insane.

Not sure if you got the filter off yet or not........try jaming a big screwdriver through it. Might give you more leverage to turn it off. good luck

Yup i have done the same with a friends truck we screwed long screws in it and used it as a lever lol wish we would of taken pics of that oil filter it was all f***ed up lol

i used one of those oil filter wrenches (looks like a big claw) didnt work out too well

used a strap wrench where the strap is made of rubber after that and it came off
they have other type of wrenches like that also made for oil filters so thats something i would suggest

I've always thought about using one of these. but the old screw driver trick always works with a stubborn filter. In my opinion, that should be the last resort though.

/\ for the win! kmart even has some metal ones for like 7 dollars or you can be brave and pound a screw driver threw it.

Sounds good!! Im gonna keep trying at it tomorrow. But i still havent gotten my other questions answered. To remove it would i have to redrain the oil or could i change it with the oil still in?

you can prob change it will the oil in it. most the oil is going to be down in the pan or lower parts of the block you will have some oil that will come out of the filter so you will have some oil loss
