Hey guys. Well now that the overheating problem is fixed the car is broke. (I Keep driving it so I will get no more surprises) ok so I am on my way home from RC willey and the car had been running great all day. We stopped at a light and when I put her in first and started moving she started putting (putt, putt, putt) and lucky for me it was residential so I pulled off. As soon as I started over she died.

When I tried to start her again she would come on for 2-3 seconds and just sounded starved or suffocated. now she just cranks over and does not start. all electrical works. I went to remove the spark plug wires and the copper piece stayed attached to the plug on 2 of them. now, do I fuck with these parts and replace a ton of stuff til I get it fixed or do I save up for an engine swap now and buy all new parts to put in her or do I fix her? I have another car so it is no biggie.

If you guys suggest fix her where should I start? There are so many things. Thank you guys. I would be nowhere without you.

i think something like this happened to me. my dizzy was bad, so i replaced the cap and rotor and it ran good again. hopefully its something as small as that.

nothing from nowhere
you gotta figure out if its spark or fuel. if your pump went bad you'll have to do that anyway.

would I need to get a fuel pump that was compatible with the new engine? I don't want to have to buy parts twice or more you know? I honestly think that it is fuel. I haven't checked to see if I get spark yet but when it stops raining I will. I was also told to spray starter fluid into an open throttle and if I get combustion that it is electrical.

it's very hard to say what I want to do at this point. My Si had a similar problem and I had to replace the distributor. It would start on hot days and it sounded like a subie so I wasn't running on all cylinders. Distributor fixed it. I would rather have the money I would spend on parts to just buy the engine that comes with almost everything. Thanks for the feedback guys. it is much appreciated.

DON'T USE STARTING FLUID! If it wouln't start normally, then you obviously have an issue and there are ways to check without putting the strees of starting fluid in there.

For spark, just pull a plug wire off the plug, stick a phillips head screw driver in there so it touches the prong and hold it about 1/4" or 1/8" away from the valve cover where the ground wire attaches. If you see spark then the dizzy is working so you can rule that out.....but don't rule out dist. timing yet. If you don't get spark, take the cap off and crank the motor and make sure the rotor inside is spinning. If not, you have a snapped timing belt, broken dist teeth, or a broken cam (not likely). Also, if you don't get spark, check to make sure you have +12V at the thick Black/Yellow wire going to the dist. If all this checks out but you're still not getting spark then post back here and we can walk you through testing the rest of the electrical components of the dizzy.

For fuel, make sure you have pressure #1. Turn the key on to the On position (not starting). You should hear the fuel pump kick on. Either way, cut the ignition switch back to off and go crack the line going to the fuel filter. If it spits out gas then you have pressue so the pump and relay are fine. If that checks out, it could be a clogged filter/injectors, or injectors not firing at all. There are ways to check this, but I won't get into it unless you report back here that you know that's the issue.

Good luck. I'd fix it before spending the money on a new motor.

and I will need new wires just to test that. as stated before when I pulled the wires the copper center peice stayed attached to the plug and the copper wire came out as well. I will buy wires and check that first. thanks for the suggestion and I will not put starting fluid in. thanks for the warning.
