Newbie with engine surge issue.

Engine stall during acceleration. anyone who knows what the problem is let me know...... ive checked the timing belt. timing, replaced plugs, oil, fuel and air filter.

the problem only happens when you accelerate, it happens during regular driving and while parked. and only after the car has been started and the engine is hot (idling for about 30-45 minutes) or about 15-20 minutes of hard acceleration. the car doesn't overheat unless the a/c is turned on (a/c works perfect) after about 5 minutes of the a/c being on with the car hot, it begins to overheat. all the intake tubes are intact, there is no vacuum loss, and no coolant drip until the car begins to overheat and water leaks from the top of the coolant tank. without the a/c on the problem persists, turning on the a/c only accelerates the rate at which the problems begins.

im baffled. i just recently purchase the car and the seller is refusing to help pay for a mechanic to fix it or find the cause.

here is a vid of the problem. each time you hear the car acclelerate im pulling the accelerator to full throttle. it still has the same problem even while pulling the accelerator slowly, but its not as easy to tell when it surges.

any suggestions are appreciated, post back, ill try and fix and report back. i know im asking for something for nothing. but ive tried everything and im all out of options.

i did my fair share of googling and the closest thing i could find was a possible timing belt problem. but the timing is correct and the belt is in almost new condition and missing no teeth.

I didnt realize you had a second gen, so Im not sure how much help this will be. On 3rd gens there is a FITV (Fast Idle Thermo Valve) and a IACV (Idle Air Control Valve?) They need a cleaning once in a blue moon. Heres some links on how to do it on 3rd gens, I would assume it is in the same location, on the left side of the intake manifold. They didnt get rid of it on out engines until ~1998, so I would assume your b18a/b will have it.

FITV

IACV

You may also want to check out the distributor.

tried and failed.

i checked both sensors via the web pages and vs. the info in the haynes manual. cleaned out the IACV valve, readjusted and took apart the IFTV valve cleaned it and put it back and after the car heats up its got the same issue...

also went to go find a radiator cap for the teg, and found out that the last person to own the car not only forgot to tighten all the clamps on the engine from the coolant hoses, but also installed a radiator from a different car in it.... i tightened all the clamps and replaced the cap. still the same problem. and the car still overheats with the a/c on, checked the thermostat and its just about brand new, no clogs or dirty radiator fluid, and the mix is good. water pump is good too.

i feel like a jackass. it seems that the temp guage in the car is reading incorrectly, and the reason the car has been surging is because its overheating, while searching for the cause, i noticed the a/c compressor motor was not working, with or without the a/c on......

got no time to run it tonight so im checking it tommorrow. but ill report back asap. hopefully my stupidity will help others lol

still the same problem after running it today. bought a sunpro temp guage to check the temperature. waiting for the cooldown to get it running and test again.
