I'm getting a new type r cluster and it has 18K miles on it. Is there a way to increase the mileage on it without driving? Could I just open it up and move the miles up to match with mine?

I think it's just as illegal to put a cluster on with less miles than the car.

If he matches the mileage at least the carfax stays blemish free.

Well federal law says you cannot tamper with the gauge cluster, and it is punishable by prison time, in the unlikely event you do get caught.

I dont think you will find any how-two's online, but you may be able to bring th cluster to the dealership, and ask them to change the odometer to reflect the mileage. Either that, or open it up and see what it takes to move the tumblers, it really shouldnt be that complicated.

ONLY couches pull out!!!!
once u crack open the cluster the odometer is easy to access. ..just roll it back.

hell ya man i would lower the mileage on that bitch who cares, sucks for whoever buys it after my brother did that on his new truck and traded it in with 30k dropped off the odometer and got a shit load more money

nothing from nowhere
if it cant be set to the same milage you have to set it to zero and put a sticker in the door jamb stating the milage on the car when it was changed.

Whats your brothers name? And what dealership did he sell the car to? I would like to get as much information as possible so that I can report him to the feds.

Hey wow you're fucking retarded. Your brother's the first one to think of that?! Hm... Let us know when he gets arrested for fraud. Good luck getting a job with that on your record. And that car BTW now has a record that the mileage is inconsistent. There is absolutely no way to clean it again. Every smog check, title change, etc and it shows up. Smart people wont touch it. Hate to see another good Honda / Acura ruined for no good reason.

There is a legal way to report that the cluster mileage isn't the same as the actual mileage. Call the DMV and you have a cop look at your car.

So there must be some reason why you don't want to simply swap the odometer with the Type R's. Well, it's very difficult, but you can take it apart, loosen it just enough that you can spin the numbers and put it back together. There's a lot of little pieces in there and it's easy to screw it up. Also, most of the time the numbers wont line up again. At least on my DA that wouldn't until the miles rolled over, which took 10,000 miles for me. I did the same thing you want to do and increased the miles to match the actual miles. In my case, the odo went bad and I swapped it with one from the junkyard. I would not recommend you do that with a Type R cluster especially if the odo is unique (fake carbon fiber etc).
