New Camera

So i'm in the market for a new digital camera. I have absolutely zero photography skills(didn't even take it in h.s.) so I won't need an SLR, just a regular point and shoot. The problem is I dont really know what i'm looking for, and I dont want to go to a store and have them just try to get me to buy one.
Uses for the camera will be: mostly shooting pics of the teg, pics of people second, and leastly pictures of landscapes and outdoors(although consider backgrounds for other pics.) I'd say about 50/50 day, night pictures if that matters. I also know that I want a camera with 7+ megapixel, some kind of image stabilization, and be tripod compatible(again, because my photography sucks.)
One question I have is, what level of zoom is ideal for me? How can I tell if a camera will mount to a tripod, by the little hole on the bottom to screw on? And what are top camera brands(i.e. Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Kodak, Casio, Nikon, Samsung, HP, or Polaroid? I know these are only a handful of brands but this list is just what Circuit City carries. One last question: What do you guys think about this camera? CircuitCity product page
Oh yeah, I have about $200 to spend, not including the tripod. But it would be extra nice to get both under that price point!
All answers and recommendations greatly appreciated!:D

I have a Kodak point and shoot.

No problems :what:

my buddy has a cannon sd750. He likes that. I dunno. I use a point and shoot for exactly what it's called.... no sense in spending a lot of money on a camera that you aren't expecting a lot of picture out of, ya know?
