Mislead on speaker size?

Ok I searched around and couldn't find the answer, so I'm coming to you guys for help.

Everywhere I read that the speaker size in my 91 LS is 6.5.
So, I bought some of these http://www.teptronics.com/voz6450wa2co.html because they were on the cheap.
Even though they are stated as 6.5 speakers they do not even come close to fitting. the plastic bracket that is in the car is to shallow first off. So I would have to cut the back out.
But if I did that none of the screws lined up. the speakers are definitely bigger than the hole in the door. They don't even fit flush if the plastic bracket is taken out.
I'm at a loss.
Am I just mislead by false printing on the speakers? They really seem like they are 6.75 or 7.. which is not what is stated on the box.
Any help would be appreciated.

Real Good!
thats how alot of speakers are, they are aftermarket so you cant just expect them to "fit" it would be too easy
i would get some mdf and make a small mounting ring out of it and it should fir perfect

I wouldn't suggest MDF in the doors unless you seal it with paint, if it gets wet it will swell up.

true, forgot about that :( i guess you can paint it
Yeah if it's sealed that should be ok, I picked that tidbit up from the how to over at team integra, the guy had used MDF then reported back when he went back into the doors the rings had swelled up. I used a solid piece of wood I found in a 2 x 2 foot section from Home Depot, I think it's maple.

Keep It Clean
Go to an audio shop and ask them. Shops eat, sleep, bone speakers. I'm sure you can have some expert to help you better.
