Manifold selection

I'm in the process of boosting my eg civic w/. Ls swap

I'm looking at either the blox manifold or the bwr ram horn manifold

Opinions on either?

Car is a dd looking for 250whp on a stock bottom end with arp studs and a t3/t4 snail

Ill say blox, since its less of a copy than BWR. And i think BWR is owned by a bunch of scum bag thieves.

The blox wastegate placement concerns me, I was hoping to find some boosted teg guys that had experiance with these manifolds

The wastegate placement is as ideal as you can get on a cast manifold. It vents all 4 runners.
Any ramhorn style manifold will make more power however but the Blox is fine for your goals.

Any issues with fitment and of quality of the blox?

Some guys are talking about shaving the block, is this just with larger turbos or?

"t3/t4" is about as generic as saying "car" so I cant really gauge the size of the turbo.

Circa 2004/2005 when I had a Revhard cast manifold which is identical or nearly identical to the Blox manifold I had to shave about 1/4" out of the block casting to clear the compressor cover. I ran a Precision SC3431 with an E compressor cover which is probably larger than what you are running (or should run). You should clear with a smaller turbo. OR if you dont care about AC you can flip the turbo around.

Ac is already gone, and since it's a civic I'm already running a half rad..

Power steering must stay as I have bad shoulders and just don't want to lose that luxury

What size turbo do you recommend I'd like it to have good bottom/mid, top end isn't as important because it's a dd

I like the idea of a water/oil cooled setup

Just wish the Garrett came externally gated as I'm not a huge fan of internal wastegates

On my mazdaspeed3 I had a hell of a time avoiding boost spikes because of the crappy internal gate..

But I guess it would save space and money.. And probably running at lower psi wouldn't be as bad

There are things you can adjust for that. For one, if you're using an electronic boost controller you can run a lower than target wg spring and use the ebc to raise boost. Once you are in the ebc operation you can manipulate the boost curve anyway you want.

Say you want to run 10psi but your 10psi spring spikes to 12. Get an 8psi spring, run your ebc at say 25% duty to make 10psi. Then where it would start to spike you can cut duty to say 10 or even 0% which allows the softer 8psi spring to vent more exhaust quicker. Then ramp ebc duty back up as rpm increases to maintain boost level without boost taper.

I call this softening the boost curve. I use this method for turbos that spike and turbos that blow the tires off when they spool up.

Hmm that makes sense.. I would like to run ebc so I would have that tune ability

I was planning on spending about 1000$ on the snail plus 2-400$ for a Ewg..

So the Garett is Definately in the budget

You wont be dissapointed with the GT28. It has supercharger like response and will be able to flow another 100hp if you decide you want more. Its a quality turbo that will last.
