LS/VTEC should i buy?

Hey guys i need your opinions.
I'm looking for a new teg and this guy in my area is selling a really really really nice teg with an ls/vtec engine. But the thing is he said he only did the top end of it. Should i steer clear of this becuase he didn't change the bottom end? Or is it still pretty safe if he did the top end properly. Any help would be appreciated.

depends on what he means by topend.......I would steer clear of any non vtec block with a vtec head but that is just me

i didnt really get to ask him the specifics of his "top end" conversion. but i know it doesn't include the oil squirter changes. Is the ls stock components enough to handle the vtec?
