LS Turbo question

I looked around & havent found an andwer so dont flame me lol. But i am rebuilding my ls b18a1 & i would love to boost it. Im not trying to get insane HP but something around the 240-60 range if at all possible. I kept stock internals have a budget & just want a more fun yet reliable car. i know it can hold boost fine with proper fuel management, tuning etc. My question is would it be able to hold 12psi off a t3/t4 .63 trim? Btw i have arp head studs arp rod bolts new ls pistons & pins ls rods acl bearings & thrust washer hastings piston rings supertech valve seals cometic head gasket all other gaskets are oem.

you should have no problems making that power on stock internals. Just dont cheap out on your turbo kit

Yea i know that, i dont plan on cheaping out on anything lol. I plan on saving up for hks turbo kit and a inline pro turbo manifold

you should look into go-autoworks. Ive never used it but daddybuildracing uses them and their parts look very good and their prices are pretty reasonable.

You can make 260hp with virtually any turbo on the market. If 260 is all that you want then you should consider downsizing the turbo to mitigate turbo lag. Look for a turbo that supports approx 300hp max. Consider the smallest T3/T4 you can find or ideally a straight T3 such as the Super 60.

You might need a little more boost pressure to make 260hp from a smaller turbo but understand that boost pressure is not a measure of safety.

Thanks for the feedback. So my next question to you would be, since im running stock ls pistons & rods whats a safe level of boost i can run at? I dont want to push the internals to there max just curious if they can hold my setup/plan

I would say that it all depends on the skill of your tuner and the turbo in which you decide to go with. Again to reiterate what Muckman said you dont want to use psi as a guage for safety because how well the motor was rebuilt is a determining factor as well.

You can make 300hp at 20psi from a small turbo or 5psi from a large turbo. The stress on the engine is the same - 300hp.

300hp is generally regarded as the safe limit on stock block B18s. Some have made more but those are exceptions.
The Non VTECs will take more boost to get there but they are also lower compression giving you a larger safety margin.

You'll want to get it tuned before the engine sees any boost.

I can vouch for this! I've got a lot of stuff from Greg and his work is top notch! Great guy to deal with

as long as you have the proper fuel upgrades and a well tuned engine, I would guess you should be fine at your desired power goals, it's nice to see someone thinking of realistic power goals for a change lol. I personally wouldn't take my stock engines over 10psi, I've had 3 LS turbos running anywhere from 4 to 8psi, but they were all high mileage engines. Good luck with your build!!!
