Low oil pressure

I have a 99 GSR and I bought it with the check engine light on. The other day I got on it pretty good and it was fine til 4th and I got up to bout 4500 when vtec was supposed to kick in and it didn't and it jolted pretty good. I took it to auto zone and they hooked it up to the diagnostic thing and he said the reason it's throwing that code is due to vtec not engaging and the reason it didn't engage is due to low oil pressure. I don't know what void be wrong wit it. I drive it everyday and it runs and drives fine. HELP PLEASE!!!

You gotta have enough oil to run vtec because it uses a lot of it. You might need to clean/replace the screen and make sure your switch is working properly

My knowledge of vtec is limited but you can pull it off and spray it with brake cleaner but if it's not clogged search the forums

this is a major problem that parts store and auto zones have . they don't give you the proper information

everyone should just spend 50-100 dollars on a obd2 generic scAn tool .

your gonna need to take it back to auto zone and get them to tell you whAt the code is . .

have you checked the basics tho .
checked oil level ?

The oil level is right on where it's supposed to be. They used the tool to tell why the light was on. I don't remember exactly what it was but something along the lines of vtec engage failure or something. I remember lookin at it and under it said something bout reasons why it would fail and one was that if your oil pressure was low it would cause it and that's what I think it is cuz the other things I know aren't wrong. So I've already called the Acura at Oxmoor dealership and order the new gasket and that should fix the problem and the light should go off.

no shit . but it is a lot Easier to diagnose a code when the person have the correct information .

so by someone getting this tool it can save them a lot of guessing like he all ready is .

these tools can also be handy for simple diagnosing . and removing the. CEL after a repair .

I gotta get that solenoid gasket. The one wit the screen in it cuz I think that's why the check engine light is on. I think that screen is clogged and it's not gettin enough oil to the solenoi for the vtec to kick in all every time.

clean that shit its easy look up diy on it theres hundreds of threads that show you how to do shit instead of wasting your time asking look of it

Don't get snippy with me ya little prick. Why the heck should he spend $100 on something that could tell him what he could drive to an Autozone and have them tell him for free? How often does one actually need to diagnose CEL's? I have never been told incorrect information. I ask them what code it is and they tell me. If I don't understand what the code is, they'll look it up and tell me what the computer says. If you have a problem with what they tell you- you can always hand them your license and they'll let you do it yourself if you can't understand what they tell you. :roll:

Low oil pressure to the solenoid, how is that misinformation.. seems pretty straight forward to me! :thumbs up

The oil pump in the car could be bad, or like said the screen could be clogged. Hell who knows,the solenoid could even be faulty.
