Finally! After 4 months of being unemployed, it looks like I have some hope. I got a interview tomorrow at my local downtown larry H miller honda dealership!

I was wondering if any of you guys have worked for dealerships before and what I should expect. I'm going to get a haircut so I look nice but I suck at interviews so I am hoping someone can help me out.

What kind of questions do they ask? What should I do when I get there and how should I present myself?

Really want this job so I need all the help I can get. Thanks guys

I can't tell you how to answer but I know a question they'll always ask: why do you want to work for Honda?

Lol what's the best way to answer that? Should I be completely honest and say I'm a diehard honda fan or should I say something else?

Ive tried to get a job at the local Ferrari dealership (only one in Michigan) before but it didnt work out. Ive heard that it involves driving cars around in the lot, to and from the dealership carwash, cleaning off the cars etc.

I worked as a valet for a while and it sucked (it was totally different than a car dealership and i only made tips and was lucky to come home with $3 or $4 for a night worth of work, but i did get free food)

edit: I have not worn a tie before to my interviews, but they were for an applebees and the home depot. Wear a button down shirt and no jeans, you might want to wear a tie since it is a dealership but it is up to you. If you do wear a tie dont do anything crazy

Wear a tie regardless of any interview.

To answer that question, tell the truth like said above. What do you think of Honda besides being a fan? What do you respect about the company?

Ex.: I want to work here because I have great admiration of how Honda has progressed through the downturn of our economy and has shown itself to be the company that can overcome anything it faces. I want to be a part of a company that is always one of the leading innovators in a product that people rely on everyday. I'll give you liquor. Now hire me.

ya wear a tie, even if that's "over the top" it's not too much to be like "whos this douchebag in the full shirt for a mechanic's job.

what is the job? i like the answer given here (especially the liquor part) but make sure you don't sound interested in the employee discount. don't be like "i'm excited to get working on my car" because it will look like you just want the discount not that you want to work for them.

(i like the economy bit...this is what i would say)

Ex: I want to work for Honda because I really respect how well Honda has done, even in a falling economy with companies getting bailed out they continue to make excellent models (know some of these!!) that customers can rely on on a daily basis. I actually own an Integra and am more then satisfied in knowing that when I go out there to start my car, it will start. I want to be a part of that experience for other people, regardless of what position that is.

Thanks for the help guys. Some good advice here :D

I'll go ahead and wear a black button down shirt, black dress shoes, and a tie. I will tell him that part about honda but how does this sound?

I have great admiration for how honda manufactures great models of cars, and even in a failing economy they continue time and time again to provide excellent quality cars to consumers. I would love to be apart of that kind of company. Hows that sound?

if anyone else has tips post them up! I want this job! :p

some dealership the workers dres up with a tie, some they wear the companies collar shirt. Try to dress the same as the people in the dealer do. If they have ties on then wear a tie, if not, then its not a must but it won't hurt. regardless, tuck the shirt in and NO jeans or sneakers.

As far as the inteview goes. Just come across as pationate about Honda and that you will make you passion known to customers. Especially if you will be selling cars you have to be knowledgable about what you will be selling. Don't make it seem like you want the job for the money.

what will you be doing at honda.

smiling and eye contact are a big point. escpecially in customer service jobs. never stop smiling through out the interview (unless your talking)

even if you think you look dumb smiling shows that yo uare confident and super interested and what the interviewer is saying

this. DO NOT wear jeans. Even if you don't have a dress shirt and tie wear a nice sweater or something.

It has already been mentioned but eye contact is a must.

If they ask you how much your looking to get paid per hour just say something along the lines of "what ever the job pays"

Thank you sir. I think I'll just wear a black button down, black slacks, black dress shoes (with black socks) and strut my stuff all confident like lol.

I have a lot of customer service experience so that is good.

Have questions prepared for them... Show interests in them...

What is your favorite part about working here?
Will there be room for advancement?
etc...

Call back a couple days later and ask if they have any more questions for you. Let them know you are very interested, and would love to come in for a second interview if they'd like to.

The hiring process can take time. Call back once every 5-7 days. Don't be pushy, but politely ask if there have been any decisions. It shows you are interested, and until they say "no" you have a shot.

Always send a thank you card. Even if they don't hire you. It will make a good impression and help you stand out.

If you are not hired, ask them if they know of anyone who is looking for a position. If they do, you can go to "x" person and say, "John Doe from Honda said you were looking for someone!" That gives you an in right there.

Bring a resumé if you can. But only do this if you are going to be able to have 10 people look it over first. Are you in school? Ask your guidance counselor to help. Many universities have "career centers" where people will help you write a resumé. My university got me into the job I have now right after I graduated.

Dress like your boss (or interviewer). If they wear suits to work, wear a suit. If they wear business casual, you should be fine wearing nice slacks and a good button-up.

Bring a change of clothes if it's a long drive, or stop somewhere and change into your clothes right before arriving. Trust me... If you're driving 3.5 hours, you'll find a way to spill something on yourself.

Arrive early, but not too early. 10-15 minutes is good.

Remember, you are selling yourself. No, not your body... But you are selling who you are as a worker. Don't walk in there with a mightier than thou attitude, but if you don't show confidence in yourself, why should they?

Have a list of your three biggest strengths/weaknesses before you go in. You don't want to have to think of those on the spot. Make your weaknesses so that they aren't terrible. If your can make them irrelevant to the job, that's even better. Maybe you can be prideful, or have a closet full of dead hookers. Hell, in one moment of brilliance in my teens, I told a Jamba Juice manager that I could have a better relationship with my mother (I didn't get hired).

You would be surprised at how much people notice manners. Sit with good posture. ALWAYS use your sirs and ma'ams. It's always mister. or miss.

Introduce yourself with a handshake. If it's a man, you should have a solid grip and shake firmly (that's what she said). If it's a woman, be firm but gentle. Look them in the eye while you do it.

Just some random things I've learned.
