Lost title

is there anyway to obtain some sort of title, when buying a car that the person just so happen to lose the title, before I go and try to buy the car

well I was thinking about going there, but also thinking about saying the car was abandoned on my property, or that I got the car as payment and he never brought me the title

Best (safe) bet would be to call a DMV just to see what they say

In Texas you apply for a lost title and it takes forever

The current owner can get a copy of the title. Its not that hard but he has to do it. Have him call the DMV.

Yep, No one would sell a car with no title unless something was going on.

I sold my landlords beat up bucket civic for 500$, no title. You can go to the dmv and get a release of liability, tranfer of ownership, and get a pink. At least in CA anyways...
