Last DA9 was faster than one I just bought?

I have two DA's sitting outside. One I've loved the speed/accel on since I bought it, even before I put a few parts on. However, started to notice a slight knock on cold startup. Since I've owned a (honda) before that ended up seriously knocking and died, I got freaked out. I can't be without with a car for my work and whatnot so I preemtively bought another that I (at first) found acceptable...

Problem is the one I just recently bought is just not as powerful or fast as the last. I have to check if the current one is an LS, but I'm pretty sure and it's from 1990. Last one was '91 GS. I've tried to research if 'tegs in this timeframe got different B18 motors to see if that was the issue. 90 LS is B18A1, tomorrow I am going to scrub through the grime to check what the 91 GS has. HOWEVER- someone here at CI told me that a 'spun-bearing' could make the car seem faster (the 91 GS) and the car I just bought (90 LS) won't pass emissions due to high carbon-monoxide output. Both cars are at near-same mileage. I am in the process of replacing plugs, O2 sensor and PCV valve as well as getting a fresh oil change and 'guaranteed to pass' additive for the 90 LS.

So I guess my question is, could the LS not being able to pass emissions be a major factor in the serious lack of power difference I'm feeling? Or do the LS and GS have diff. motors, the GS being more powerful?
The spun-bearing symtomps happened WAY after I put many miles on the GS and I've noticed a pretty consistent power band on that car so that theory is the least probable in my mind.

Thanks for reading the rant. Would love to hear some constructive thoughts on this whole deal.

i dont see how a spun rod would make it seem faster... but as to motors being different its the same b18a1... 94-01 got the b18b1
