Just got a 94 LS, and already in love!

Hey!
I just bought my bone stock 94 LS Teg about a month ago, with 161k on the odometer. I am the third owner, and the first owner (who had it up till around 120k) took METICULOUS care of this ride. The guy i bought it from(who was related to the first owner) gave me a folder which was full of service records up till about 120k or so. The radiator seems to have been replaced a couple of times(a common Integra issue i hear?), the clutch master cylinder may have been replaced or at least bled around 95k. Timing belt/water pump were done at 90k. ABS brakes were 'serviced' and 'R&R' around 90k as well.
I don't have a record of when the clutch was replaced, but with 162k i gotta figure it's been replaced because the car can easily start in 2nd and there is absolutely no slipping whatsoever.

The dude that sold it to me was not a car guy, so aside from regular oil changes(thankfully for me) and a tune up last May i don't think that he did much to the car. He did keep it pretty clean(as you'll see in the pics) but the engine bay was grubby when i got it. It was clearly leaking around the valve cover and cam seal area. I plan on posting pics later on once i really clean it up and fix those leaks, but so far I've degreased the hell outa the engine, replaced the thermostat(it was stuck open), changed motor oil and tranny oil as well. I put a magnetic drain plug in both the engine and the tranny to catch up any shavings that may be in there since it is a higher mileage car.

I noticed that the clutch master cylinder was way low on fluid a couple of weeks ago, and topped it off with fluid but surprisingly enough the clutch worked throughout. It doesn't seem to be leaking, and i doubt that the last owner ever checked it- i wonder how it could've gotten low without there being a leak?
I plan on replacing the slave cylinder as a precaution and then bleed the clutch system soon since it's certain to have some air in it.

I may replace the fuel filter tomorrow as it looks pretty old. I bought Energy Suspension shifter bushings and will be putting those in soon as well, gonna hold off on the short throw shifter for a while though.

The other day it had a problem starting when the engine was warm, from my searching i see that it may be the ignition coil or module, i may just go ahead and replace the whole distributor in time as a precaution since i can get a brand new Beck Arnley for $130.

I'm also strongly thinking about doing a valve lash adjustment when i have the valve cover off. Never done that sort of thing before, but i will get all the proper tools and will be very slow and careful with it. Still nervous though.. Oh yeah, a valve lash adjustment was done at around 90k, and it doesn't make noise when hot(makes a little when cold) but it seems like doing this is a good idea since i plan on keeping this car for many miles to come.

She runs super smoothly, and is quite fast for a b18b1.
Onto the pics!

The floormats are probably gonna have to go. I'm thinking about replacing them with black or charcoal grey colored ones. I have a new shift boot on the way and the doorknob that is passing for a shift knob will go as well.

This is how the engine looked when i first got it.

This is after some degreasing. I'm not going over it with a brush yet since the leak hasn't been fixed yet.

Anyways, glad to be here- Lata!

The original clutch on my '96 GSR didn't go out till around 182k miles.

But anyway, looks like it's in pretty good shape. Just get that oil leak fixed

Your original clutch lasted 182k, and on a GSR no less?@!? The clutch went out at 120k on an MR2 I had. I just figured that they wear out sooner than 150k+, then again i suppose it really depends on how one treats it, and judging by the previous two owners it'd be a safe bet that they didn't abuse it so maybe it is original. Damn though, i wasn't planning on doing a clutch replacement anytime soon, so hopefully it'll hold out for another 20k+ like yours did :)

I am definitely going to fix the leak but i really want to do the valve lash adjustment at the same time. I also want to repaint the valve cover so more preparation is needed. If i find another b18b1 valve cover for cheap i could paint that one ahead of time so that it would free my time up to do the valve lash adj at the same time.

Yes, my car was treated really well by the original owner. It had zero modification, lots of highway miles and wasn't abused. I was suprised it was the stock clutch when I took it apart as well but I guess it was also a relief to know the car was treated well enough for a OEM clutch to last 180k+ miles.

Welcome! Nice find on an unmolested integra. looks great especially after that degreasing.
Hey I see your in VA as well! Nice ride! I like it minus that spoiler~

When I was searching for a car- I trolled through listings of many Integras that were modified in some way or another, and others which were stock but had clearly been driven too hard and/or not treated well over the years. All that I saw (and were also in my price range) were in poor shape. When I saw this one on craigslist i snatched it up quickly. There were several other guys trying to get this car as well but i managed to talk the guy into letting me have the first grab at it.

I'm not against mods at all- but i personally was looking for an unmolested car so that any mods done would be done by myself and i will know what exactly was done and how it was done, etc. I am happy with the fact that it doesn't have stripped bolts (ie. from people using the wrong tools) because it was serviced by a dealer, then an import shop. I won't be taking it to the dealer anytime soon of course :p Most repairs will be done by myself, and as of right now the only mods i have planned are (possibly) 15" rims and a Comptech Icebox along with the polyurethane shift bushings. I'll be busy enough fixing leaks and getting the car back to the best running condition possible...more mods may come down the line.

Alright well judging by the fact that i have pretty much every single service record up till 115k, it's safe to assume then that this is an original clutch. I'm guessing that it wasn't too difficult to do the clutch yourself? I've never done one but have jacks, tools and am mechanically inclined enough. I won't touch it till it starts slipping of course, but i'd def. like to save on the labor so that i'd have more money for other things for my ride!

Speaking of clutches, do you have any ideas as to why the clutch master was so low on fluid, with no apparent leak?

It is a relief to know that my car was treated well over the years, esp. considering the tendancy of many Integra drivers to go fast and hard :)

I got my LS with just shy of 80k, I'm rocking 147 right now, still on the same clutch it had when I bought it? Unsure of if/when its been replaced, myself.

Welcome
