so bottom line, I WANNA KNOW IF THIS CHIP IS SOCKETED AND ABLE TO BE REMOVED? i dont see any soder on the points, but it seems to be in it pretty tight and i dont wanna jerk and break anything. anyone know?

You should be able to pull it. Yous a small screw driver. If you can, get a chip puller-you might be able to get one at radio shack or a computer store. Better yet, take it to one and see if they can pull it for you. Those eprom chips sometimes stick in the boards from mild corrision over time. Just remeber to be static safe, and install the new chip the right way or its by by ecu.

Any chip that is seated in a chip socket can be removed fairly easy; provided it isn't soldered into place. Removing a chip that soldered to the socket or directly to the board is a little harder. I would suggest a lot of practice with a soldering iron before attempting.
