integra problem/turbo question.

my car is a 93 integra b18a1 and it has a weird idle problem. ill start it up and it runs rough and misses a little bit is what it feels like. It will only do it for a couple seconds, (longest yet is like 5 seconds), but once i give it about half throttle for a couple seconds it will run better. It doesnt do it every time either. only every 2 to 3 starts. but why? what could cause this?

then my turbo question is, im planning on rebuilding my engine, it has 150k miles. But it burns oil and coolant. so its head gasket for sure, but probablly rings also. i just dont wanna deal with it so im gonna have it rebuilt properly. so once i do that im planning on boosting it and i want to run 6-8 psi. i dont need alot of hp. bout 220. but how do i go about doing this? im looking into a t3 maybe? and will my engine be able to handle it with a rebuild?

The idle could be because of the obvious motor issues. If you know it has serious issues, you shouldn't even worry about a little idle, if it's going through coolant and oil it's probably time for a rebuild.

A rebuilt B18a1 can handle 220hp stock. 300hp is about the maximum you can push on a stock motor. Look at the sticky in the Forced Induction section and read the links as well as the Q's and A's.

220 is enough for me. im not looking for a drag car. but i want a car that can smoke all these retarded guys with civics and their 4 inch exhausts and mustang gts around town. But the rebuild if gona happen. ill give it bout 5 months then ill do it. But another thing is, will my ls tranny and stock clutch handle 220 hp? im pretty sure i have a stage 2. just from the way it feels and reacts. but just in case im wrong. id like to know.

Your transmission will be fine with that power. You will need to upgrade your clutch though. I would anyways. My buddy has a boosted DA9, he's probably sitting at around 200-240hp and he's running the stock clutch. He has mentioned having some slipping issues, but I believe the stock clutch is still holding.

"Stages" are brand specific, they mean nothing. Stage 2 with one brand could handle 600hp, and stage 2 with another brand could be 200 horsepower. I'm running a F1 Racing stage 3 clutch, 7,000 miles on the clutch, 2,000 have been running a turbo. No issues with it.

Contact TheNoxus1 on here or e-mail him at Mitch@QSRace.com. He can hook you up with whatever turbo parts you need, as well as a clutch. Best prices around.

thanks man. i didnt know that about clutches. but im gonna get my engine rebuilt first of all. but while hes down there im gonna have him install some better rods and bolts. think it would keep it steady if i throw some different cams on. But 250 hp on my car would be a good goal. maybe even 300, tops. I just dont know how to go about this. i definantly am gonna go with a t3 turbo kit and a 3 inch exhaust to start. But another big question is, how do i go about getting a tune. I plan on installing the turbo on the stock ecu for now. but im gonna go and install a 2-step launch control and im pretty sure it wont go on the stock ecu right? what would be the best ecu to go with a t3 and 2-step? And once i get the ecu, could i tune it myself? if i know what im doing at least.

The stock ECU can just be chipped and tuned on assuming it's OBD1. You will have to find a Honda tuning shop to do it for you.

Don't touch your cams at all, leave the head completely stock for 300hp. If anything buy forged rods AND pistons- that way if you want more power later down the road your motor can support it.

alright man. thanks. i probablly wont do much to the engine, performance wise, to the bottom end for now. but what chip do you prefer. i found a t3/t4 turbo kit for 500. seems like a good kit.

If it's for $500 it's probably the knock-off eBay brand kits. Don't expect them to be amazing or work well. I've put 1,000-2000 miles on my eBay turbo and it's got a bad oil seal. Go with quality parts, you'll be replacing them later down
the road anyways. Go spend $2000-3000 on a legitimate kit.

Go Autoworks sells a bunch of different kits, check them out.
