Inner Tie Rod

I have a bit of play in my inner tie rod on the passenger side. Enough so that I can wiggle the wheel while its jacked up and it moves a couple degrees. It doesnt seem like much when I take the wheel off, but it moves a lot at the perimeter of the wheel. I had changed the tie rod end about a month ago because I though the play was because of it. How hard is it to change? Do I need to replace the whole shaft? Or does the end peice with the little ball joint come off of the rod? Thats where the movement is, where the ball joint looking peice is.

Thanks

prety easy man, take off the outer one and the boot, then unscrew the inner one from the rack, youll need a inner tie rod remover tool.

I had expected you to be one of the posts here Jim. :) When you say outer one, you mean the end link that hooks up to the knuckle? What does the tool look like? I figured all it would take was wrenches.

http://www.lislecorp.com/tool_detail.cfm?detail=900this lets you take it off without pulling the rack, i think theirs enough room to use a wrench though, but i cant remember. your welcome to borrow mine but your kinda far. lol yeah the outer one hooks to the knuckle.

hey i was wondering if u knw how to remove the inner tie rod
Rent/acquire an inner tie rod tool, makes it much easier. It basically unscrews from the rack and pinion.

The tool looks like this - http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-45750-Inner-Tie-Tool/dp/B0002SRGFW

Autozone and other parts stores may loan/rent them out, call around.

1. Remove the outer tie rod
2. Remove the bellows covering the inner tie rod
3. Use the tool to remove the inner end
4. Bolt on the new inner end
5. Re-install the bellows and outer end (try to get the alignment close to where it was before so the tie isn't too far off)
6. Get an alignment.
