In-Dash Nav questions THIS MEANS YOU BARRY!

Okay guys so I really really want this unit Pioneer AVIC-U310BT
Its a double-DIN, Crutchfield says it won't fit, because the EM2 is a single-DIN, but I'm wondering, what if I pull out the headunit and the slot underneath, effectively making it double-DIN. My only concern is the dimensions of the Pioneer AVIC-U310BT and if it'll fit in the space in the dash.

I'm asking you Barry, since we share the same car, and you're CI's resident audio guru.

I'm not exactly sure how the dash is on the em2 but i have a pioneer double din in my dc2 (avh-4000dvd). If they're generally the same dash then yes it will fit. You just may have to get creative with bolting it in.

There is a way to put a double DIN head unit into your Civic, but it's not cheap. Honda did offer a double DIN OEM radio in Civic's, I think only the Special Edition LX's and EX's. A friend of mine has one in his '05 LX Special Edition sedan. Here's a pic of one:

You may need to buy that double DIN style dash piece though. I'm not sure if you can take out the OEM pocket of the single DIN dash and put in a double DIN radio. But even if you can and it'll bolt up, you'd probably be left with some big ugly gaps around the radio.

EDIT: OK, I have the question answered as to whether a double DIN will bolt up in the dash....it will:

There are your ISO mount holes right there, two on top, two on the bottom.

And BLAM! Look what I found, Metra makes a double DIN dash kit for OEM single DIN dashes.
Crutchfield is wrong! Which suprises me, I thought they knew what they were talking about over there.

And THAT is why I specifically asked you! So you think that Pioneer will fit no problem?
And the kit in the link you showed, has that divider bar in the middle..

How would that fit double-DIN? Would I have to cut that out?
We're talking about '01-'05 Civic's, not Integra's.

The Pioneer should fit no problem. It'll have ISO mount holes in the side of it that will line up perfectly with the holes in the Honda bracket. ISO mount holes are all in the same location among all Japanese car manufacturers and the aftermarket car stereo industry - there all the same size and same location. It's a standard thing they've established between each other. Kinda like RAM memory manufacturers and the computer manufacturers. Light bulb manufacturers and light socket maunfacturers, same deal.

That piece going through the middle of the kit can be taken out. You'll notice on that Ebay page the seller says that kit is for either a single DIN or a double DIN. So I'm sure it's removeable.

Well thanks for all the help dude. But just one more question. Are all the keys standard? Because I don't have the set that came with the 7859 all I have are keys from an old Alpine I had in my LS. But they won't fit for shit in the 7859 in my Civic. So basically I can't even get what's in there out.
Are all the keys the same and I'm just dumb? Because it seems like they're too wide..not wide but too tall like they won't fit into the slot..

what you can do, and this works for me is if youre able to get your hand to the back of the deck area (lack of the official term) you may be able to push it out of the bracket. my din keys are shaved down so it doesnt really grab anymore so i have to push mine out. May work for you

An Alpine in your Civic should be ISO mounted, keys won't work. The radio is screwed into the side brackets. You'll have to uninstall it all the way.

That's exactly what the case was. After a lot of choice words I tried to just pull out the whole DIN panel..but not even, I had to pull out the whole console, like the vents, HVAC controls, AC & defrost button..the whole thing. So now I just have it there hanging until my new HU comes in.

BTW I skipped the Pioneer navi, I ordered a CDA-9886..the previous generation. Alpine's newest is 9887 so I got the 9886 at a killer price($180 shipped including install kit and harness!)
I figured I've already got navi on the BB, THe only reason I wanted the nav. is because I wanted a touchscreen unit in the car....after driving my girl friend's(that is a friend who is female) '10 GTI which is fully loaded(Dynaudio, navi, bi-xenon, sunroof, denver,) just no leather(it's not a GTI without the plaid cloth) and no DSG. I was just so envious of her touchscreen navi. 2010 GTI's come with touchscreens even without the nav. option which is just so sick!
And she's an RN so she makes good money so with a little convincing from me she did some simple(and cheap) OEM mods to bring the 2.0T up to Audi A4 status which is 211hp and 258tq!!!! GOD I LOVE HER CAR! And with some other basic mods like GIAC, intake, DP, and exhaust, it would net at least 300wtq!!!! Holy shit I want a GTI!!!
But my heart beats Honda so I just can't swallow switching teams..unless I'm switching to Subaru.
