I'm new and need help.

Ok heres the deal. I bought a 96 ls integra from my dad for real cheap. He bought the car from my sister. My problem is, when my sister owned the car the speedo stopped working. She said it was acting up for a while then just stopped working. I have replaced the vss twice now thinking maybe I had gotten a bad one. I still have no speedo. Is it possible for the cluster to have gone bad? everything else works on the cluster except the speedo. The engine light is also on but I am unsure how to tell which codes mean which. Some help would be awsome. I have posted this on club civic as well and was refered to this forum. Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about the tiny shaft on the top side of the speedo gear? It all spins freely and is lubed.

you use a magnetic sensor. his vss says how fast his car is going.

guessing by the g2 in your name, you own a 2nd gen like me. we get speed cables, 3rd gens don't. they use a vss.

it could be the cluster

There isnt a speed cable. Its a sensor and then wire. I figured out the codes. It is throwing 17 and 70. 17 is the vss. Is it possible I have two bad vehicle speed sensors? 70 is something to do with the auto trans but I unplugged some lights on the cluster so maybe thats what this is about. Does anyone know where I can get a good vss for kinda cheap?

if you've already replaced it twice, I'm petty sure thats not it...

check the wires going to it. Maybe they're corroded somewhere in the path.

check all the wiring to the cluster itslef make sure nothing is loose
I have already pulled the cluster. Everything seemed fine. Tomorrow I'm going to jack the front end up and pull the sensor off and leave the gear in and put it in gear to see if it turns. I really dont know what else to do at this point. All of the wiring seems to be ok, and I really dont wanna take it to honda.
