ID this turbo and questions (pix inside)

After a few weeks thinking whether if I want to boost my car or not, I decided to go for it. I'm piecing a turbo kit, one at time, I'm in no hurry for it. A friend who sold me the integra shell gave me this turbo (pix below), it's still in good condition and I planned to use it on my new build 97 JDM GSR. My goal is to get about 210 or 220HP out of it. I don't need a big amount of power. So far what I had done to the engine were; Stage 2 CC cluch, timing belt, water pump, head gasket, new head bolts, intake manifold gaskets all OEM. Next week I'm going to purchase; 440cc injectors, AEM rail, B&M FPR, Walbro fuel pump, next month is a Hondata S300, cast iron manifold Threatstone, OBD down pipe and one hell of a tune after :), with all that and if everything get done correctly, do you think I can get that HP I'm hoping for?

Oh don't forget to ID this turbo for me please.

well that crooked H should tell you it is off of a Hyundai.. Only hyundai I havve ever heard of boosted is obviously the genesis. No need for identification, you can see it is a TD04L. Looks very convenient to install considering the BOV and Wastegate are located directly on the turbo itself. Make sure if you get the cast iron manifold that it will match to the TD04 flange and as for the down pipe you will probably have to cut of flange that comes with it and weld on the matching TD04.
If you don't need the datalogging or boost by gear I wouldn't spend the money on Hondata s300. You can buy Neptune and for just over a hundred bucks and have all the tuning capability obviously with out the datalogging or boost buy gear. I imagine that turbo has coolant lines to run through it to keep it cooler but they are not necessary. It is up to you wether or not to run the lines. I had the S300 software and now am running Neptune because of the Hondata only connecting intermittenly so if you choose to run the Hondata s300 I do have the software. Neptune is substantally cheaper and absolutely great for your needs. I would shoot for 250whp. Enjoy the turbo process.. Make sure you get strong t-bolt clamps and good length couplers to ensure no slip. Don't forget your wideband! Also good oil pressure and fuel pressure gauges are great to have. If you ever plan to run meth make sure you get the coolingmist CMGS2 kit, it actually ditributes only so much gradually as you boost not just kicking open and dumping in like almost every other kit out there. If there isn't anything I have covered just ask. BTW where are you from?

your plans sound good, and i would just get s300, when (not if) you decide to make more power, because you will, the options s300 will be handy.

I would have to agree that the setup looks fine, however I don't think you need S300.

There really is no point unless you're doing any of the tuning yourself, or are in need of those features- which I doubt you are.
If you're set on Hondata, I believe there's someone on here selling an S200.

Hondata is not needed at all you still have the option to tune it yourelf wth neptune. Save your money and put it into other things needed. Neptune has everything you could ever want with acception of datalogging. There is no diference in making more power with hondata that does not make sense.

Thank you very much for took out your time to explained it to me. I'll go with Neptune then, I do not want to go over 300hp. I just want to have a turbo car with a decent power to drive around with and I've been wanting to do this for a long time already. Whenever I get everything set up, I will post up the pix, this is going to be a long process to me, I just want to do it one and do it right. I'm from oklahoma.

Thanks :)

that's my point, there's a reason people prefer s300 over neptune. More people tune it, its easier to tune, and has a lot of options.
Neptune is good, don't get me wrong, but i would use it on a n/a car.

if you can get an s300 for $130 go for it you do not need to spend that kind of money. I agree many people use Hondata and are used to tuning with it but for the money it is not worth it unless you need datalogging. I would not even sell my used s300 with out ecu for under $500. Crome is also a cheap affective way to save money and tune easy.

I would have to agree, if I had S300 for $150, I'd buy it on the spot.
However, I have to agree. No sense dropping over $500 on an ECU just so you can wave it in someone's face, for most people it would just sit there and look pretty for the rest of it's life.
