i think my timing is off but not sure

so i replaced my cap and rotor but when i was replacing them the mechanic buddy i had helping me told e to turn the engine over to get the rotor screw visible without the cap on when i did this did i put my distributor out of timing?


its a b18 block with a vtec head and i believe a p28 computer it wont start just turns over it has spark air obviously and plenty of fuel

Lol nah dude its not out of timing that way. You probably have your wires in the wrong order so do a search and make sure there right . Changing the cap doesn't offset your timing, but u can turn your dizzy to advance vice verse timing

Bankiboi is right my man. you have mixed the spark plugs wires up and need to get the correct location for proper firing order. on the dizzy the spark plug wires usual make a backwards z. With the top part of the z being number one and the end of your z being number four.

i have checked the plug wires they are correct it wants to start i think it is starting then it dies it

they go from the passenger side
3 4
1 2 is this not correct?
if its not the plug wires being off what do you think it can be

Fuel pump probably, check to see if its getting fuel if not there's your problem. Or starter but usually if u get a jump and it starts then its not the pump

How are you checking for spark? Pulling a wire or using a spark tester? If you were rotating the engine with the distributor still plugged in you could have messed up your coil. Unfortunately the problem with posting to forums is that unless I am there to actually take a look at things all I can do is make educated guesses that might point you in the right direction. I hope you find out what is wrong.
